An exhibition by Ben Kruisdijk and Conny Kuilboer, featuring individual works and work made in collaboration.

The exhibition will be opened by Josien Beltman, Coordinator documentation / librarian at Rijksmuseum Twenthe.

The opening will also host a New Years Drink Party.

The Shock of the New

Ben Kruisdijk en Conny Kuilboer zijn kunstenaars in een Postmoderne tijd, voor hen is er geen sprake meer van duidelijke opeenvolging van stromingen, zoals in het Modernisme.
Het lineaire vooruitgangsbegrip, dat aan het Modernisme ten grondslag lag, heeft hier plaats gemaakt voor een gelijktijdigheid en zelfs bonte mengeling van stromingen en stijlen zonder duidelijk toekomstperspectief.

Mede hierdoor voelen zij zich vrij om te refereren naar stromingen van voorheen en daar vragen bij te stellen en kanttekeningen bij te plaatsen.

In de tentoonstelling 'The Death of Modernism' gaan Kruisdijk / Kuilboer in op het idee van het Avantgarde en 'The Shock of the New' binnenin beeldende kunst.
Dit doen zij met een licht humoristische beeldtaal die ook ironisch en melancholisch opgevat kan worden.

Conny Kuilboer has been granted the opportunity to study at the HISK in Ghent, Belgium.

The Higher Institute of Fine Arts (HISK) organizes postgraduate education in Flanders in the field of the audiovisual and visual arts. It provides approximately twenty-five young artists from Belgium and abroad with a studio of their own for the duration of two years along with specific, tailor-made guidance.

At the HISK, emphasis lies mainly on individual practice with an international focus. The visiting lecturers are crucial.
Artists, curators, critics and theoreticians pay individual studio visits at regular intervals. There are also frequent visits to significant art events and lectures, seminars and workshops are provided. The HISK also offers technical facilities and production opportunities.
Thanks to the unique HISK concept, the participants are given every opportunity to invest in critical research of their work in order to situate it within a broader artistic, cultural and societal context.

At the end of the two-year working period, the participant receives a certificate of ‘Laureate of the HISK’. The HISK is officially recognized as Higher Institute and is financed by the Flemish Community - Ministry of Education and supported by the City of Ghent.

Since 1997, 148 laureates have graduated from the HISK. The largest part of them are currently building up a successful professional career in the Belgian and international art world.

Blame it on the Boogie’ is een groepstentoonstelling die focust op het werk van zes jonge kunstenaars uit Nederland en België met werk van Ruben Kindermans (BE), Ben Kruisdijk (NL), Conny Kuilboer (NL), Tinka Pittoors (BE), Esther Tielemans (NL) en Tamara Van San (BE).

ENSCHEDE - De sloop van het viaduct bij de UT is niet meer terug te draaien. En dat is best wel jammer, want kunstenaars laten zien dat het viaduct geen gruwel, maar juist een aanwinst had kunnen zijn. Het idee de entree van onze stad door kunstenaars te laten verbeelden, komt van VVD-fractievoorzitter Jeroen Hatenboer.

Het viaduct bij de Universiteit Twente wordt door planologen en economen gezien als een enorme-sta-in-weg om het Kennispark en universiteit tot een eenheid te smeden. Slopen, is de oplossing. De gemeenteraad heeft inmiddels groen licht gegeven voor de sloop.

Hatenboer, sowieso een kunstliefhebber, draaide de discussie om. Kun je, door het inschakelen van kunstenaars, van een gruwel juist niet iets moois maken waarmee Enschede misschien wel de wereld over gaat?, stelde hij zich de vraag. Hij vond Wilja Jurg, kunstendentant in opbouwbouwijk Roombeek, aan zijn zijde. Zij benaderde zes kunstenaars, die stuk voor stuk met verrassende ontwerpen op de proppen kwamen.

as a returning event in the gallery, the show during the summer months will exhibit the work of the artists selected for the yearly international call.
the participation in this 11th edition has been quite high with a total of 620 portfolios sent by artists from all over the globe, the majority being from the americas and europe.
for the final selection we have centered on the criteria’s of internationalism, quality, professionalism and not least originality, which have nothing to do with nationalities, genders or styles.
since the beginning, the call was born with the firm commitment to promote and to support the artistic creation, and to promote all those new media of which our contemporaneousness consists.

through this contest, what interests us, is to get in touch with the youngest sector on the international art scene, and to give them the opportunity to develop their work in a professional environment. At the same time it is an opportunity for the gallery to get to know by firsthand what is developing in most contemporary art.
And last, this collaboration creates a line of work with new artists that might end up forming part of the artists of the gallery.
